Windows 98 1543
Author: Blue Horizon This is going to be extremely short as a lot of what this build consists of, I already covered in my review of build 1544 back in 2020, so anything I glance over would've also been covered there anyway. For a more detailed review, it's recommended that you read that first assuming you don't want spoilers. Most branding in this build is still referred to as "Memphis". The header text for each part of the setup wizard has been changed to a sans-serif font, previously occupied by one that has been prominent since Windows 95. All slides for this part of setup have been changed to reflect its finalized branding, and is pretty much the same as seen in 1544, so I'll skip this part. The Welcome message is also present here, though like later builds, it doesn't start automatically upon first login. Also identical to 1544. (Left; 1543. Right; 1544.)Something I really didn't touch upon in 1544 was the About dialog - not to be confused with Winver. Here, the old branding is still in-place as well. Version Conflict Manager isn't included in this build, and thus isn't present in the Start menu. There is one other difference I managed to spot here compared to the next build, which is that the "Icons" tab in display properties is still using its older incarnation of the "Plus!" tab from Plus! for Windows 95. Presumably, a few of these were removed as they would later be reworked later in development; with stretching the desktop, for instance, already having its function be fulfilled in the background tab. |
