Windows NT 5.0 1816
Author: Blue Horizon Despite being a greater number than build 1814, this build is approximately 10 days older than that, suggesting it was compiled under a different branch. The boot screen now sports that solid blue color scheme as opposed to teal in 1796, as well as changing its branding to Beta 2. On-screen text is still preserved, however. The gradient is also animated here, unlike before. Well... that's one way to start off setup. Almost reminds me of certain instances where Windows 9x would crash upon startup and vertical lines would appear at the top. Moving the window around clears it up, however. Thank goodness for manual redrawing. Java fall down and go Boom. I didn't initially mention this in my review of 1796, but the Welcome dialog now resembles that of the final build, just with obvious different branding. The "Show Desktop" button in the corner of the taskbar is also gone, and wouldn't return to that exact spot until much later with Windows 7 almost a decade later during its development. A full view of Media Player 6's static image, which is still labeled as version 5.2 in the Start menu. Pretty much anything else I've said about the couple previous builds applies here, but I did find this folder on the root of the drive (also in build 1796) where logs are dropped. Apparently, it was the code name for a component known as MSDAIPP (Microsoft Data Access Internet Publishing Provider) for Windows 2000/Me and later, and was a simple OLE DB provider. A comment dated from 2006 coming from Peter H. confirms this as seen here. |
