Windows NT 5.0 1585

Author: Blue Horizon

There isn't much new to explore in this build other than some bug fixes and faster preformance, but the main thing they've changed is IE. Let's see what they've done this time.

The Active Desktop recovery has slightly changed, although when I first saw this the "Restore my Active Desktop" button wouldn't work. So I had to reset it in properties.

I don't know why, but the first few times you start IE, it's not the full thing if you know what I mean.

I assume this is cause I used winnt.exe /b rather than go the 3 bootdisks route, which is why there isn't much in the start menu.

I'm not sure why you would need 3 floppy disks just to have convenient shortcuts in the start menu, but you could always just manually add them yourself.

The explorer is still the same from the last build (and Memphis). On the bright side it doesn't have that graphical glitch when scrolling.

And in this build I was able to get high color icons working. They look just like the ones you'd find on 98... for now.

I still also don't know why the toolbar icon buttons are pink, though they look like they're starting to take shape.

The channel bar is now gone from the desktop by default thankfully, but you can still active it by typing in run "iexplore -channelband". There is no actual website links in the channel bar at all, but you can add folders you've created and put shortcuts in it. Oh, and removing the folder completely isn't as easy as you would think...

Just happened to get this when leaving IE running idle without me doing anything on it. Dr. Watson for NT actually has error code info.

Being that Outlook Express is basically a component of IE, it's also slightly updated. The home page looks much cleaner with much higher color icons. But the swirly background behind the buttons is gone.

The fullscreen IE is slightly updated, but the address bar and menu bar are off by default. Why that is beats me.

Netscape 3.x had a kiosk mode that worked similarly, but it doesn't make much sense to run a browser full screen on a desktop or laptop computer, hence the tiny text depending on your resolution.

Being an early beta of an infamous browser (version 4), you can expect some rendering problems on certain websites. Surely it can't render Acid1 correctly.
