This is a limited technical release that expires 300 days from the date of installation. Please note that Microsoft does not recommend you install this build for any form of production use. This build is provided for development and testing purposes on an as-is basis. This is an interim build and we do not consider it as beta release quality. It has not passed our stringent beta test cycles and you may find key features are not fully functional in this build. We recommend that you install this build on a test machine at your own risk. Alternatively, you can view documentation on the Web at: http://ntbeta.microsoft.com Creating Windows NT Setup Startup Disks ======================================= If your Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server Setup floppy disks become corrupted or are misplaced, you can create a new set using Makeboot.bat from your Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server compact disc. It is helpful to have these disks available. You can use these disks to start Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server Setup. Note: You can create the startup disks from a computer running Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server only. You will need three, formatted, 1.44-MB floppy disks. To create Windows NT Workstation or Windows NT Server startup disks: 1. Insert a blank, formatted, 1.44-MB disk in the floppy disk drive. 2. Insert the Windows NT 5.0 Beta 1 compact disc in the CD-ROM drive. 3. In the \Bootdisk directory, type makeboot.bat a: 4. Follow the instructions to complete the process. Fresh Installations of Windows NT Server on Alpha Systems ========================================================= For this release when using the Alpha firmware to begin a fresh installation of Windows NT Server, the graphical portion of Setup will indicate it is unable to locate Mst20.cnt. Select either: Skip the File Browse the CD and select the \Alpha folder on the compact disc
