Longhorn 4033

Author: Unknown

this build is one of the builds with a working DCE!

This build removes that blue yucky non-GUI installation part...and changes the boot screen.

The setup...as you can see looks wayyyyyy diffrient than from build 3683. Don't worry, more changes are soon to be seen.

(PNG)

There are no percentages yet.

(PNG)

This dialog was pushed out to Windows Vista...but this dialog looks nicer than the one that got released with Windows Vista.

(PNG)

Something all the way from Windows 98 comes back in this build of Longhorn...

(PNG)

This welcome screen doesn't take much to get used too...as it looks very futuristic.

(PNG)

The desktop as you can see has a new shortcut named "File a Longhorn bug". The notifications have also been improved to the state where i can see that being what notifications could look like on Windows Vista. Also now the sidebar has been introduced! The default wallpaper that you see is "Bliss"...yet again it was redesigned. To be honest i liked the one from build 3683 better.

(PNG)

When you hide the sidebar...you get these three things. The time, unhide sidebar button & a random button that looks exactly like Windows XP's unhide applications on the taskbar button. I would say they did a bad job on that part...but atleast you can't see that unless you hide the sidebar. The worst on that part i would say they did would be the clock...i mean just one look at it and you would think the Windows Longhorn Team (now known as the Windows Vista Team) was very slobby & lazy on that part of the build. The other weird part would be seeing a button that looks exactly like Windows XP's unhide applications on the taskbar button...like wtf is that doing there?!? Oh, and also if you notice then the quick launch has been moved from the start menu to the sidebar.

(PNG)

The start menu as you can see has a few new buttons...such as "Game Library", the "My Pictures" folder has been renamed to the "Picture & Video Library", there's now a "My Contacts" button aswell. As you can see some of the icons have also been changed...it may not be alot of icons butttttt it's a start (SPOILER: It's the "My Computer" button).

(PNG)

Well...it looks like Microsoft removed that old "Display Properties" that we saw back in build 3683. I liked that design though. There is now one new theme leading the total so far being three..."Windows Classic", "Plex" & "Windows XP". I guess they wanted to bring back Windows XP for a bit lol.

(PNG)

This is the "File Explorer". It is very heavily changed from build 3683...sadly they removed the space bar for the hard drives and etc. If they had released the "File Explorer" with no space bar and just a percentage then well...alot of people probably would of been mad. I would say this is still a big improvement from 3683 which as you know is the earliest publicly available build.

(PNG)

This is what "Internet Explorer" would of probably looked like if they had not reset development of Windows Longhorn. And to be honest it's the most ugly looking thing on the planet...i wonder what else caused them to reset development of Windows Longhorn.

(PNG)

Well...i think that's all for this review. I would say there's not many problems with this build so if you want it...then go for it! I also like the Windows Longhorn branding on the "About Windows" application btw.
